The Negroni Sbagliato was created in the early 1970s at Bar Basso in Milan, Italy, by bartender Mirko Stocchetto. According to the famous story, while making a Negroni, Stocchetto accidentally reached for a bottle of Prosecco instead of gin, creating a lighter, sparkling variation of the classic cocktail. The name Sbagliato means “mistaken” or “wrong” in Italian, referring to this happy accident.
Here’s how we did it:
Negroni Spagliato.
30ml Sweet Vermouth, Carpano Antica
30ml Campari
30ml Prosecco
Orange slice
Pour your vermouth and Campari into a mixing glass.
Stir until glass is slightly frosted.
Strain into a rocks glass with ice.
30ml or top off with chilled prosecco.
Garnish with an orange slice.
